BTW - Basic Theory Wielding (by Aga)

Big Things Wiggling (Lina and Tatjana)
Our initial goal was to study the Lagrangian formalism to understand the Kepler's Problem and apply it to binary stars. However, we did not get this far. Since neither of us is a university student yet, we had to devote part of our time to the mathematical tools.

Believe The Wavefunction (Clement and Kieran)
In this report, we compare two basic systems found in nature. The hydrogen atom and the Earth-Sun system. We start with a basic introduction to Quantum Mechanics and follow with the formulation of a quantum mechanical model of the Earth-Sun model using the gravitational force instead of the electric force. It is then quickly seen how this model fails under scrutiny. Finally, we finish with a summary of the Vantournhout quantum model of the Earth-Sun system.

Broadening Transition Wavelengths (Ashley and David)
The aim of our project was firstly to look at the perturbation of the energy levels of the hydrogen atom due to interaction with its neighbours. Secondly, we used a Monte Carlo method to find the consequential broadening of the absorption lines within stellar spectra as a function of the pressure. Our model yields qualitatively correct results, but more effort is needed in order to establish a proper quantitative comparison with observational data.

Beyond Time-Space, What? (Jesus and Isaias)
Cosmology is a field of knowledge which tries to understand the origin, the evolution and the ending of the Universe. In this project we would like to explore the limits of the Theory of General Relativity and obtain some solutions with a basic approach. For this, we will first study the maths and the meaning of Einstein's theory, and then we shall solve Einstein's equations for simple conditions.
